March 30, 2015 rehadlock 0

When Sean Robinson’s grandmother passed away, he inherited a painting that had been in her attic for over 25 years. The piece entitled, The Anguished Man, had been an unwanted gift from a friend that Sean’s grandmother stowed away in the attic insisting it was “evil”. She claimed a dark figure had been lurking through her house ever since she received the painting and that strange noises such as crying were coming from it. The artist who created The Anguished Man was an incredibly disturbed individual who mixed his own blood in with the oil paint when painting the piece […]

Chrysippus was a Greek Stoic philosopher born circa 279BC in Soli, Cilicia, a Roman province located in modern-day Turkey. He served as head of the Stoic School of Hellenistic philosophy in Athens until his death in circa 206BC. It was recorded by a student at the Stoic School that the influential philosopher and headmaster literally died of laughter. He then jokingly commanded his slave to, “give the donkey neat wine to drink with which to wash them down.”. According to the philosophy student who documented the events […]

Tina Enghoff is a Danish visual artist who, in her exhibition entitled ‘Possible Relatives’, explores loneliness in society by way of death. Inspiration for this otherworldly series came from newspaper articles searching for relatives of the recently departed. Enghoff collected over a hundred of these articles over the years and displayed them with her photos in her exhibit at the Nikolaj, Copenhagen Contemporary Art Center. These individuals who died alone in their homes with no known next of kin are remembered through Tina Enghoff’s photos of the empty apartments which they once inhabited. Although the viewer will never know who lived and died in the still-furnished rooms, […]

Known by many as “The Mad Monk”, he has been alternately nicknamed “Russia’s Greatest Lover” due in part to the legend that in life, he sported a thirteen inch penis. Is “Kicking the Bucket” For Catholics Only?

March 11, 2015 rehadlock 0

The phrase, “Kick the Bucket” was first mentioned in The Dictionary of Vulgar Tongue, published in 1785, and defines it as simply meaning, “To die.”. This idiom, which may imply a hanging death either by one’s own hand or execution is of unknown origin, though there are many theories on what spawned the widespread use of this popular saying. Again in 1823, the phrase was published, this time in John Badcock’s Slang Dictionary along with a brief, plausible explanation: “One Bolsover having hung himself from a beam while standing on a pail, or bucket, kicked the vessel away in order to pry into futurity and it […]

Evidence Supports Sixth Sense (PSI) in Humans

March 6, 2015 rehadlock 0

Today, many people claim to have extraordinary abilities, or a “sixth sense”: There are psychics who claim to know the future, mediums and spiritual sensitives who communicate with spirits of the dead, and telepaths who can read the minds of others, to name only a few. Unfortunately, “mediums” like Helen Duncan have caused the human race to lose all faith in people who claim to have “abilities”. When the “ectoplasm” that would manifest from her during séances so mysteriously began to take the form of a terrifyingly kitschy haunted house prop, her audiences were baffled. That was pretty short-lived once people caught on her “ectoplasm” was […]
