After the attack on 9/11, debris from the World Trade Center Towers was transported to Fresh Kills landfill in Long Island. There, the partial remains of 1,600 victims were uncovered. Frank Marra, a now-retired NYPD Lieutenant was one of many people tasked with sifting through the rubble of the Twin Towers.
He goes into detail about paranormal experiences he and other workers witnessed during their time at Fresh Kills in his book, From Landfill to Hallowed Ground. Perhaps the most bizarre is an apparition of a Red Cross worker distributing sandwiches. While searching through debris Marra, along with a group of workers, noticed an African American female dressed all in white, “in the style of a Red Cross worker during World War II”, carrying a tray of sandwiches.”I thought she was trying to help us, being first responders.”, Marra commented. He spotted the woman on several other occasions, always from more than 50 yards away. But Marra and his crew were not the first, or last, to encounter this helpful apparition. While conducting interviews for the book, Marra met with a retired crime scene detective who asked him if he had heard of the, “old Red Cross worker trying to serve sandwiches and coffee.”.
